In a Nutshell: The Grand Seduction (2013)

Looking for something fun and light? The Grand Seduction is perfect.

Tickle Head, Newfoundland. A tiny fishing village in dire need of a factory. The catch? They need a resident doctor and they’ve tried for years. So, when Dr. Paul Lewis (Taylor Kitsch) is caught at the airport in possession of cocaine, strings are pulled that this offense will be conveniently overlooked if he goes to Tickle Head. The plan: to convince him that this village is worth staying in longer than his “sentence” requires so that the factory becomes a reality. And they’ll convince him by any means possible. I won’t tell you how, but I promise, you’ll just love it.

What a wonderful little movie. Brendan Gleeson (always fantastic) leads the superb cast. You have to give this one a watch.

  1. I love this movie, especially that it takes place in my home province 🙂 It is adapted from the Quebec film “Seducing Dr. Lewis”, and totally fits. Brendan Gleeson is fabulous as is the rest of this cast, and his accent is quite credible! Also shines a light on the lack of job prosperity in many parts of rural Newfoundland. Overall such a fun movie. I can’t say enough good things about it!

    1. Thanks for your lovely feedback. How special that such a magical movie takes place in your home province – it is just magical (and looks beautiful). Please pop back to my site around 3 Feb when I will do a proper write-up for this charming movie as my contribution to the O Canada Blogathon.

      1. I definitely will! I will also be writing for the blogathon as well on a Gordon Pinsent movie from 1987 called “John and the Missus”!

Come and visit NL anytime, but it is best to come in the summer. The weather is so unpredictable especially on the eastern part of the island.

            1. It is quite a distance. Although, I have managed to do the trip to California as well as New York. Hmm…an excuse to go via Europe and visit family.
South Africa is absolutely gorgeous – if you manage to come out this way, let me know. Have a wonderful week ahead.
